Saskatchewan Grant
Awarded to ECS
On January 11, 2010, senior art teacher, Marea Olafson, received exciting news
that her November application for an $8000.00 ArtsSmarts Saskatchewan Grant
was successful. Ms. Olafson’s application project is for her grades seven
through twelve art students to create digital visual-art works that explore the
design elements. The grant will cover the cost for two artists to come to Eston
School for eight days. During this time they will teach students two different
computer programs that can create the visual images. The programs taught will be
Adobe Photoshop CS4 and an AutoCAD program. The grant will also help in
purchasing the required software for the school’s computer lab. Students in
grade 7, 8, and 9 will be introduced to the computer programs and artists by
creating basic projects. Art 10, 20 and 30 students will become proficient in
both programs and will create their own original artworks. The project will
take place during art class in March and April 2010 and once completed, one
piece of artwork from each grade 10-12 student will be framed and matted and put
on display at Dawn of the Head Salon and Spa and the Eston Prairie
Center Credit Union.
The
$8000.00 ArtSmarts Saskatchewan Grant is funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board,
SaskCulture, Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture, and
Recreation, Saskatchewan Ministry of Education, and Arts Smarts.
