OCTOBER 1st Newsletter
Mustang Musings
The first month of school
has truly been a busy one! With local farmers finishing up the harvest and
students getting accustomed to being back at school everyone must wonder where
the month has gone in all the fall fury! We have had some very exciting events
take place this month and here are just a few to highlight the fantastic start
to our year. The Back To School Barbeque was held earlier this month out
on the front lawn of the school. The SRC as always does a terrific job
organizing this event and it was great to see all the family members come out to
have a hot dog and a visit as we kicked things off for the 2011-2012 school
year! We have welcomed some new staff as well as some returning faces. We
would like to extend a warm welcome/welcome back to Mrs. Aitken, Ms. Olafson,
Mrs. Mastel and Mrs. Trytten. It was great to see the parent evenings hosted by
Mrs. Trytten, Mrs. Owens and Ms. Peters. Thanks for coming out and showing
interest in the education of our students!
The leaves are falling and that usually indicates the start of Cross Country,
Volleyball and Football. We would like to extend a big thank-you to all the
parents and volunteers who drive and officiate these events. We couldn’t do it
without you! The Football team is once again re-building with a very young
nucleus but there is some promise on the horizon. We have some very celebrated
cross country athletes which include Zach and Olivia Fox, Cole Elaschuk, Talon
Beckstrand, and Jamieson Day who all had top ten finishes at recent events.
The volleyball season has started and I know that Ms. Dolman is very excited
about the teams that Eston has out on the court. Come out and watch our
Mustangs play some exciting volleyball as the players and staff really
appreciate your support! On November 21st former Saskatoon City
police sergeant Brian Trainor will be speaking to the grades 4-12 students about
bullying, and safe practices for computer use which includes topics like
cybersafety and cyberbullying. The elementary drama has included the senior
high students in a new production this year and Mrs. Owens, Ms Lambert, Ms.
Peters and Mrs Brewer are well underway in casting a new production that should
be an awesome performance as always! Flag football has also started with two
teams here at the school (The Colts and the Ravens). This will be a fun
activity for grades 3-7 students until the snow flies!
Looking forward to a great
October!
Yours in Education and Mustang Spirit, John J McPhee, Principal

THANK YOU
to the congregation of St.

for our students. These supplies will be put to good use!

Use Good Sense with Scents!
Eston Composite School is a Scent Awareness Environment
Eston School, along with the Sun West School Division, generally considers the
use of fragrances a personal choice. But fragrance chemicals are, by their very
nature, shared. The chemicals vapourize into the air and are easily inhaled by
those around us.
Eston School asks individuals working, attending, and visiting our school to
please consider the sensitivity of others and help contribute to a scent-reduced
environment.
We
thank you for your consideration of others.
Jr. Golf Report
– Submitted by Mr. Faraday
The Jr. Golf program started with our Sectional playoff in Eston on September 12
. Five golfers qualified as a team for the District playoff, which was held in
Outlook on September 20. These golfers were Ty Hansen, Parker Killam, Austin
Sauser, Cole Elaschuk, and Tali Hansen. Other members of the golf program were
Chase Elaschuk, Kyle Andrew, and Tanner Hewlitt. These eight golfers
represented us very well at Eston and the team of five also had a good day at
Outlook’s challenging course.
Crossing Guards (Submitted
by Miss Dolman and Ms. Bjornerud)
ECS has recently started a school crossing guard program. The main role of the
crossing guards is to help students cross the street safely. Implementing this
program will add an extra safety component to the arrival of our students in the
morning, as well as when they leave at the end of the day. The staff and student
volunteers appreciate the support of our students and our community members for
this program.

St. Andrew’s United Church, Eston Full Gospel Church, Holy Cross
Anglican Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church for their continued
sponsorship of a monthly “Muffin and Juice” morning for our students.
