It is hard to believe it will soon be Christmas!

We would like to welcome Cindy Lee as an EA to our staff and the return of Mrs. Shawna Moreside.  All the best to Ms. Colleen Currey.

Just a quick note to tell you of our school happenings:

School Community Council Meeting will be held Monday, November 28 @6:30 p.m.

The SRC  would like to thank Phil and Lorna Sather for donating the cotton candy for our family fun night.    So far this year the SRC has put on many events and activities. Our annual haunted house was a great success. At Kyle Composite School it is anti-bullying week and  we are having a door decorating contest to raise awareness.  There will be various activities planned for the students on Dec. 22 by the SRC.

Athletics:  November is a turnaround month where we are finishing up our Sr. Volleyball programs and getting ourselves geared up for another curling season.  Our Sr. Girls Volleyball team has had a successful finish to their year.  They placed second at the Conference playoff, held in Eatonia, and advanced to Regionals held in Glentworth.  The girls played very well  at the tournament, but did not advance to Provincials.  It is an accomplishment to make it Regionals, and we were very proud to have the Sr. Girls representing our school and community at the tournament.  Congratulations players and Mrs. Hannouch on a very successful season!!

The Jr. Girls Volleyball team had a strong finish to their season.  The team did not advance to the District playoff but showed improvement throughout their sectional playoff.  Congratulations on a strong showing at sectionals.

In  curling this year, Ms. Grassing will be coaching the Jr. and Sr. Curling teams.  Our teams are looking forward to getting on the ice.  Please ensure that you have signed up for a curling team and talked with Ms. Grassing about participating.

Mrs.  Shawna Moreside, Kristy Hodgins and Kelsey Smid attended a yearbook workshop in Saskatoon, coming home with great ideas for this year’s yearbook.   The 2010-2011 yearbook has arrived and you can pick one up at the school office at a cost of $30.00.  The committee is also selling poinsettias at a cost of $20.00 in a variety of colors.  Orders must be in by Dec. 2 and expected delivery date is Dec. 8th.  You can contact Janet at the office if you are interested in ordering one.

The K-6 Christmas concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21st. We are presenting "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

A few reminders to parents and students:

Thanks to parents who attended Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences.

We would like to inform everyone that our school is a peanut/nut aware environment.

If you are a town student and it is necessary for you to stay for lunch, a note is necessary.  Also, we would like  town students to only arrive at the school by 8:40 in the morning.   We encourage all students to dress appropriately for our cold, winter weather.

Students return to classes on January 9, 2012

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Newsletter

Welcome to all new staff and students!

So far The SRC has had a great start to the year. They  have started their magazine campaign and got off to a slow start but are starting to pick up.  Some good prizes have been given out.  They have had a pizza program going so far and have had success.  Some upcoming events will be the Family Fun Night, a performance by Persephone Theatre and also a performance by Ed Peekeekoot for Oct. 5.  We were given a sample of an athletics contract and the SRC approved it. Again thanks to the community for your support.

Glee Club has begun practicing for the year. We are going to try to have one performance each month. We hope to audition for Telemiracle this fall, and we may be participating in some music festivals later this year. Any new students in Gr. 7-12 who are interested in joining Glee Club please see Ms. L. Grassing!

Thank you to Ms. C. Currey and the Grade 11 who prepared the Pancake Breakfast on September 8 for all staff and students.

Kyle Composite School has started another exciting year of athletics:  Austin Noble and Dalton Schneider competed at  Sectional Grass Green Golf Playoffs in Eston.  Way to go boys!  Thank you to Mr. L. Tucker who coached the boys.

We have also kicked off the volleyball season with three teams; Sr. Girls, Jr. Girls, and Jr. Boys.  The Sr. Girls Volleyball,  coached by Mrs. T. Hannouch, have had a busy schedule and have already participated in three tournaments.  The girls had an outstanding performance in Leader and won the tournament.  They then attended a tournament in Cabri, and lost a hard fought battle to Fox Valley in the final.  The girls have also attended a tournament in Gull Lake.  This tournament was not as successful for the girls, but they were up against some strong competition and we are proud of their fourth place performance.  We want to remind you of the Sr. Girls upcoming home tournament scheduled for the weekend of October 15th.  Hope to see you there cheering the girls on!

Jr. Girls Volleyball , coached by Mrs. B. Connor, have also started their season, and are looking forward to hosting their first mini-tournament after school on Tuesday, Sept. 27th.  The girls are also looking forward to attending a tournament in Outlook on Oct. 1st, and “hosting” a home tournament in Elrose on the weekend of October 15th

Kyle Composite is also excited to have a Jr. Boys team this year, coached by Ms. M. Loder and Jessie Harris, as there has not been a team in the past few years.  The boys are working hard to improve on their volleyball skills, and are looking forward to playing some games this year.

Cross country will also be starting up shortly coached by Mr. L. Tucker and Ms. M. Loder.

Professional Development Day for staff was September 26. No school for students that day.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields
.

Where has the time flown! Soon Santa and his reindeer will be on our rooftops!

October was a busy month for all students and staff. We enjoyed Education Week by having  an Author, Linda Aksomosis, Meet and Greet the Teacher Night and a pep rally for all our teams. SRC also put on a Spirit Week, and all were spooked by the Haunted House and dance.

We had a presentation by SWEEP regarding recycling  for all K-12’s and the Grade 9-12’s enjoyed their trip to Saskatoon to watch Mama Mia.

The Gr. 4-6 Pennies for Peace program has started to raise money.  The students are busy rolling money and are in the process of writing letters to businesses to have collection jars around the community.  Please keep your eyes open for these letters coming to your business.  If we have overlooked your business and you would like to collect money for Pennies for Peace we are sorry.  Please contact Mrs. Trytten at the school to arrange for collection.

The K-3 class would like to thank the school and community for your support of our Unicef campaign this year. Through individual fundraising, school activities, and a bake sale, we were able to contribute successfully to the Unicef program. Our donations will be used to go toward making children's lives better all around the world. Thank you for helping our students show that one person can make a big difference in the lives of other children globally!

The yearbook committee will be fundraising again this year by selling poinsettias.  We will be placing order forms at the main office of the school, at the Mammoth Bakery, and at the Co-op.  Students will also be canvassing for orders.  This money fundraised goes directly towards subsidising the cost of the yearbook so we can continue to provide our students and community with memories to keep for a lifetime at an affordable cost.  This year we have had two students attend a workshop and we learned a lot!  Keep your eyes open for some new changes in this year's yearbook such as a hardcover, a world fact section for 2010-2011, and a custom designed cover.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

Congratulations to our Junior Girls Volleyball team and coach, Mrs. Erin Trytten, who won Sectionals at Beechy and  advanced to Districts at Kyle on Saturday.  Senior Girls along with coaches Tanya Mastel and Rachelle Hodgins, continue to competitively play at tournaments and have exhibition games. Conference play will also be coming up on November 6. See Savannah Cheney’s Communication Report for all the details.

Our Grade 9 students enjoyed participating in the Take Your Kids to Work on November 3.

Grade 10’s and Mrs. Dyrland are putting the finishing touches to the Remembrance Day Service at 10:45 a.m. November 10th. All are invited!

School Holiday November 11 and 12.

With the cold weather upon us, please read the information sent home on our school division’s weather policy.

Report Cards go out Monday, November 15. Please read the Sun West Report Card Information handout regarding our new report cards from K-12.This continues to be a work in progress. Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences take place the evening of November 16 and the morning of November 17. Janet will be contacting you regarding a time for your Parent/Teacher/Student Conference or you may contact her at the school.

We still have some outstanding student fees that need to be paid.  It would be appreciated if you could attend to this a.s.a.p. Thanks.

An SCC meeting will be held Monday, November 29 @6:30 p.m.

Celebrate the upcoming Christmas season with our Elementary Christmas Concert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21.

Student Fun Day and last day at school will be Wednesday, December 22. The SRC will be serving Christmas Dinner to all our students and staff.

Students return Wednesday, January 5.

From our staff, have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
